KENOSHA, Wis. -- Carthage College defended its home court inside Tarble Arena with a 3-0 sweep of North Park University (25-18, 28-26, 25-16) on Saturday evening. The North Park loss knocks the Vikings out of playoff contention.
The Firebirds (18-11, 3-3 CCIW) opened the first set with a 10-3 run, capitalizing on North Park attack errors and a pair of kills from Kristina Manojlovic and Emma Crow. North Park (18-11, 2-6 CCIW) responded with a 5-0 burst, highlighted by a block from junior middle blocker Meg Rothermel and a kill from senior middle blocker Riana Hayes, tying the set at 13. But Carthage surged again, closing the frame on a 12-5 run fueled by Crow and Manojlovic, who combined for three kills in the final stretch.
Set two was a potential tipping point for the Vikings. North Park led 20-15 after a service ace from sophomore defensive specialist Dyanara Knapp Olivera and a kill by senior outside hitter Shamyia Collier. Carthage clawed back with a 7-2 run, tying the set at 22. The teams traded points until Carthage's Madilyn Danielson delivered the decisive kill at 27-26, followed by a North Park attack error to seal the set.
In the third, Carthage took control early with a 5-1 lead and never looked back. Ava Dettwiler and Manojlovic led a balanced attack, while North Park struggled to find rhythm, hitting just .114 in the frame. A late 5-0 Carthage run, capped by a Dettwiler service ace and a block from Danielson and Katie Boston, closed the match.
