Six-straight wins for the Vikings as Women's Soccer stays in the CCIW's top slot

North Park and North Central remain the only CCIW teams with a perfect conference record

CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park Women's Soccer (9-6, 6-0 CCIW) stayed scorching hot as they notched their sixth-straight conference win against Millikin University (3-9-4, 0-4-2 CCIW) on Wednesday evening.

A scoreless first half didn't knock the Vikings' aggression or game plan, logging nine total shots with three on goal while holding Millikin to just two shots in the first half.  By the end of the game North Park nearly tripled their shot attempts to 24 shots, shooting just under 50% on goal with 11.

Freshman midfielder Sofia Svensson broke the scoring spell for both teams in the 59th minute when she put one through off the assist and hockey assist from junior midfielder Stine Lie and sophomore defender Isabellah Avila

This marks the tenth goal of the year for Svensson, tying her for first in the CCIW in total goals on the season in overall play. She becomes ust the fifth Viking in program history to reach double-digit goal totals.

Roughly twenty minutes after Svensson's score, midfielder Hannah Björkegren sent in the game-sealing goal for the Vikings, her fourth of the year.

Defensively, North Park only allowed a total of six shots with three being on goal, all saved by senior goalkeeper Paige MacRitchie, who earned her fourth clean sheet of the season, good for fifth all-time at North Park.  Defensive players like Avila, Olivia Eriksson, Ava Balmaseda, and Tilda Karlsson were stout on their side of the pitch knocking the ball away from Millikin players on fast breaks and sending the ball back to midfield whenever possible.

Every win continues to build on the history books for NPU Women's Soccer - in addition to most CCIW wins in program history (6), the Vikings' 9 wins on the season is the most since a 12-7-1 finish for the 2005 season.

What's Next?

The Vikings' next game will undoubtedly be one of the most important games in program history this Saturday, October 25 when they take on North Central College 11-5, 6-0 CCIW), the only other team in the CCIW with an undefeated conference record. Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM CT.
