North Park University to Honor Historic Championship Teams at Homecoming

CHICAGO, IL -- North Park University is proud to announce a special celebration at this Saturday's Homecoming festivities, honoring two landmark moments in Viking athletics history.

The athletic department will recognize the legendary 1973 wrestling team, which captured North Park's first - and only - championship title in school history. Their victory not only marked a pinnacle of athletic achievement but also ended Augustana College's decade-long dominance, snapping a streak of ten consecutive titles in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW).

In addition, North Park will pay tribute to the 2004, 2005, and 2006 men's soccer teams, whose back-to-back-to-back CCIW championships signaled a new era for the program. These teams made history by securing the first conference titles in program history, breaking Wheaton College's nine-year reign atop the CCIW standings.

"These teams represent the spirit, determination, and excellence that define North Park athletics," said John Born, North Park University's Athletic Director. "Their achievements continue to inspire our current student-athletes and remind us of the legacy we're building."

The Wrestling team will be honored at halftime of Saturday's Homecoming football game at the Holmgren Athletic Complex starting at 1pm. The Men's Soccer teams will be honored at halftime of the men's soccer game beginning at 7pm.  Alumni, students, and fans are encouraged to attend and celebrate these historic milestones.
