Vikings roll on against Titans in 4-2 win

Fourth straight win for NPU, the only four-win team in CCIW play

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. -- The North Park Women's Soccer team remained perfect in CCIW play after an impressive 4-2 road win over Illinois Wesleyan on Saturday at Neis Field.

North Park jumped ahead early in the 29th minute when junior midfielder Hannah Björkegren buried her third goal of the season, assisted by senior forward Caroline Sjøstedt. After halftime, freshman midfielder Sofia Svensson extended the lead 2-0 in the 59th minute with her eighth goal of the year, set up again by Sjøstedt.

Illinois Wesleyan stayed on the attack however, making it a 2–1 in the 70th minute on a goal from Ellen Dahlquist. Svensson quickly answered just four minutes later, notching her second goal of the match off an assist from junior midfielder Maja Applequist.

Applequist then capped off the scoring in the 86th minute, when she set herself up to kick the corner kick only to send the ball into Sjøstedt for the give-and-go, converting a long shot off the pass from Sjøstedt—her third assist of the game.

Sjøstedt recorded three assists and five shots, while Svensson led the attack with two goals on three shots. Björkegren added four shots on goal and Applequist finished with a goal and an assist, while Paige MacRitchie anchored the defense with four saves, holding off a late Titans push.

This is the second straight weekend that Sjøstedt had three assists. With her performance today, she now has nine assists on the season, good for first in the CCIW and ties a North Park program record for assists in a season set by Megan Eix in 1997 and done again in 1999 by Ingrid Hjelm.

North Park moves to 7-6 on the season and 4-0 in conference, making it four straight wins and tying a program record with four CCIW wins.  North Park Women's Soccer's 4-2 win is only the fourth triumph over the Green & White and the Vikings are now riding consecutive wins over IWU for the first time since 1995.
