Chicago, Il., -- The Vikings (4-6, 1-0) started their conference play off strong with a 2-1 win last week against Augustana College behind freshman midfielder Sofia Svensson's two goal day. After a full week without a game, North Park hosts the Wheaton College Thunder (4-3-3, 1-0) on homecoming being the second of three home games for Viking athletics at the Holmgren Athletic Complex. The Thunder are coming off a 1-0 victory over Elmhurst University last Saturday and spoiling their homecoming in the process, marking their first victory in five games. Wheaton started their season 3-0 but have faltered since, looking to find a groove during the most important stretch of the season much like the Vikings.
North Park has a great opportunity this weekend, facing a team that averages 0.6 goals per game and is letting up 1.5 goals per game. Look for midfielders Sofia Svensson, Julia Önnerheim and forward Caroline Sjøstedt to be aggressive in this game. For Wheaton, they seem to abide by an offense by committee approach, having five players with at least 8 shots. However, now that conference play has started, it wouldn't be surprising if they turned up their aggression as well to try and go on a run, since they only have scored 6 goals this season.
The Vikings' homecoming game will start at 5pm on Saturday, October 4th.
