Sjøstedt nabs CCIW's Offensive Player of the Week honors

Sjøstedt becomes first Viking to win the honor in seven years

CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park started College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) conference play 2-0 this past week, beating Augustana College 2-1 and Wheaton College 5-1.  One of the primary reasons for the Vikings' success came from the performances of senior forward Caroline Sjøstedt, who has been named the CCIW's Offensive Player of the Week.

Against Wheaton, Sjøstedt's presence was felt throughout the match.  She scored in the 16th minute to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead, followed by assisting on three Viking goals in only 55 minutes of play.  Sjøstedt's three assists marks the first time a Viking has reached that total inside conference action, or against any team not named "Mount Mary". Though she didn't score against Augie, all three of her shot attempts were on goal, applying pressure on the opposing keeper.

The honor of winning Player of the Week hasn't been awarded to a Viking since 2017, when Emily McIntyre secured the recognition on September 19.

Sjøstedt and the Vikings find themselves in the middle of a tight conference race as one of just two teams with an unblemished conference record through more than one match. The Vikings are back in action at home on Wednesday, October 8, when they face Elmhurst University at 7:00 PM CT.
