NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Senior guard Rico Powell scored 20+ points in a pair of wins last week, leading to College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week recognition on Monday afternoon. Powell is the first North Park Basketball player named to the league's weekly honor roll this season.
Powell turned in his third-straight game reaching 20-or-more points in a win over Elmhurst on Jan. 22 and Millikin on Jan. 25. Powell led all players with 25 points against the Bluejays, nearing a double-double with eight rebounds, and he tied with the Big Blue's Lane Thomann as the leading scorer in Saturday's triumph.
The Vikings' leading scorer from Chicago tied a career high with four steals against the Big Blue and established a career mark with four assists in that same game. For the week, he shot 15-28 (53.6%) from the field, pulled down 13 rebounds, six steals, and made six threes last week.
Powell and company have keys games this week - an away contest at Augustana on Jan. 29 before a home game against Carthage, whose only loss in league play was to the Vikings earlier this month, on Feb. 1.
