CHICAGO, Ill. – The North Park Women's Tennis team made short work of their College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) opener on Thursday afternoon. The Vikings swept the Carroll Pioneers with a score of 7-0 out at River Park Courts.
#1 and #2 singles showcased the quality of the CCIW with a pair of tiebreaking matches. Hanna Zethraeus and Alexandra Ristfeld both pulled off the tiebreaking wins in the first set with 7-6 scores and both followed suit with 6-3 second set wins to take the respective #1 and #2 matches. Ristfeldt's opponent, Katherine Trifilio, made things interesting by coming back from a 5-2 deficit in the tiebreaking set, but Ristfeldt came through to secure the win.
Katja Carlberg picked up 6-3 wins at #3 singles and Emilia Sand was 6-2, 6-3 at the #4 singles spot. Alexandra Pugachova continued to show exceptionally well in the #5 slot with a sweeping 6-0, 6-0 win in her second collegiate match. Maddie Starr represented the #6 singles for NPU with 6-1 wins.
The strength of NPU's doubles play in the spring season continues to show up here in the fall. #1 doubles of Zethraeus and Carlberg won via forfeit, due to an injury sustained by Carroll. #2 doubles of Emilia Sand and Ristfeldt and #3 doubles of Ella Darrow and Pugachova came away with 6-2 wins, securing the 7-0 conference victory.
