DE PERE, Wis. – A pair of second-half goals put North Park Women's Soccer back in the win column on Wednesday night as the Vikings beat the St. Norbert College Green Knights, 2-0, out in De Pere.
St. Norbert controlled most of the first half threats as the Green Knights sent in six shots, including three on frame, through the first 20 minutes of play. North Park struggled early, as the Vikings' first shot did not arrive until 40:03 when freshman midfielder Julia Önnerheim put a shot on frame that was saved by SNC keeper Lilly Collins.
The Green Knights held an 8-1 shots advantage over the Vikings in the first half but the score remained tied at 0-0.
North Park had a burst of energy in the second half as four of five shots would threaten the Green Knights' defense.
One of those shots, a 56th-minute strike by sophomore forward Caroline Sjøstedt from 22 yards out, would break the tie as North Park began to push the pace.
Önnerheim kept things rolling with a shot on goal that was knocked behind the end line, setting NPU up for a corner kick. Sophomore midfielder Mayja Applequist played a long pass from midfield up to junior forward Sofie Swedberg, racing up the right side of the field. Swedberg passed over to Önnerheim who finished with a one-touch shot just feet from the goal mouth for the second score of the game at 73:30.
This score would hold for the rest of the game, as the NPU defense and junior goalkeeper Philemina Toca finished with their second shutout of 2024.
