HANOVER PARK, Ill. – The North Park women's tennis team had a non-traditional home opener on Friday afternoon, moving over to Centre Court in Hanover Park for a match with the Wartburg Knights. The Vikings came away with the victory, 6-1.
#1 singles player, senior Hanna Zethraeus, won 6-4, 6-3 in a tight match with Wartburg's top player, Natalie Kaiser. Junior #2 singles player Katja Carlberg, #3 singles, freshman Alexandra Pugachova, and #4 singles, senior Maddie Starr, all enjoyed dominant wins. Pugachova's Viking debut proved to be the biggest splash, as she won 6-1, 6-0 in her first collegiate match.
Freshman Thea Gifvars went to extra action to steal away her win from Wartburg's Brooke Bloom at #6 singles: 6-4, 4-6, 1-0.
#1 doubles play saw Zethraeus and Carlberg team up to make quick work of Wartburg's top duo with a 6-1 score. #2 doubles for the Vikings, junior Alexandra Ristfeldt and junior Emilia Sand, also dominated in their win at 6-1. Pugachova and junior Ella Darrow gave a valiant effort at #3 doubles but fell, 7-5.

North Park (1-0) continues a three-match home stretch next Thursday, September 5, when they host Carroll University at 4:00 PM back at the River Park Courts.
