CHICAGO, Ill. -- The North Park Women's Basketball Team opened their season at home against a fellow Viking school in Lawrence University. The first quarter was even for the most part, both teams were getting the rust off from the long offseason, both only putting up nine points. Five of North Park's nine points in the first came from points off turnovers turning their defense into offense. However, Lawrence would have the advantage throughout the game on fast break points 7-0. North Park trailed Lawrence 23-15 at halftime.
Junior veteran guard Kathryn Keehn and graduate student forward newcomer Evelyn Abundes had 8 and 9 points respectively, but it was sophomore guard Teresa Morrissey who provided a spark in the second half with 11 points that rallied North Park to get within 10 when it seemed the game was getting out of reach. Freshman guard Aliesha Peterson tallied a game high 12 rebounds in her collegiate debut, while also earning starting honors. On the defensive side, Keehn and freshman guard Naomi Kaskavitch racked up 2 steals each.
The late push from North Park wasn't enough as they fell to Lawrence 58-42 in their home opener.
