WHEATON, Ill. -- North Park Women's Soccer played the Wheaton Thunder to a tie at Joe Bean Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as both teams marked one goal each in the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) contest.
The North Park offense looked to overwhelm the homestanding Thunder in the first half, piling on 10 shots to just the Thunder's two. That effort finally paid off late in the first half. Sophomore forward Carline Sjøstedt maneuvered a handful of Thunder defenders before moving a pass to freshman midfielder Julia Önnerheim. Önnerheim darted right before sending a hard shot between the feet of the Wheaton goalkeeoper, putting NPU ahead in the 39th minute.
North Park kept its same pace in the second half, but Wheaton played with more urgency than they showed in the first 45. This paid off thanks to a 67th minute goal by Grace Crowder, who found the inside-right corner of the goal for the equalizer.
This score would stand, as the two teams played to a 1-1 draw.
