Rinne named the CCIW Defensive Player of the Week

Rinne becomes seventh different Viking to earn a CCIW weekly honor in 2024

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- After guiding the No. 8 Vikings Men's Soccer to their 10th shutout of the season on Saturday, freshman defender Dennis Rinne was named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday afternoon. Rinne becomes the seventh different Viking to earn a weekly honor from the league office in 2024.

Rinne registered his third goal of the season in North Park's 1-0 win over North Central last Saturday. He was on the field for all 90 minutes of the victory in Naperville, including his 82nd minute strike to break a scoreless tie.

This honor for Rinne ties a program high in CCIW Player of the Week awards for North Park Men's Soccer. That previous standalone record of seven acknowledgments was set in 2010, including two Defensive honors for Hannes Granlund. This season, all seven weekly honors have gone to different Vikings, establishing a new all-time high at North Park. Carthage's 2016 season that saw nine acknowledgments for eight different Firebirds is the CCIW mark to beat.
