CHICAGO, Ill. -- North Park Men's Soccer claimed the final two College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Player of the Week awards on Friday morning. The league announced senior forward Carson Belcher and junior defender Dennis Rinne as the respective Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week.
Belcher enjoyed one of the best stretches of conference action for any CCIW player this season. The forward from Schaumburg, Illinois scored six goals on the week and added three assists, totaling 15 points over three games. He scored a goal and added an assist in North Park's 3-0 win over Elmhurst, scored twice in a 5-2 win at Millikin, and had a career performance with three goals and two assists to clinch a CCIW title at home against Carroll. His 8-point performance against Carroll was a single-game high for any player in league action this year.
Rinne has anchored the back line for North Park all season, contributing to numerous shutouts while limiting shots on goal as a mainstay on the field. The back-flipping junior from Stord, Norway guided the Vikings to a pair of shutouts last week, beginning with a 3-0 blanking at Elmhurst, where Rinne and the defense prevented any shots on goal. He then added his first game of the season with both a goal and an assist at Elmhurst before adding another assist in the final game of the regular season against Carroll. He played 90 minutes in all three matches, including the Vikings' ninth shutout of the season against the Pios.
Belcher, Rinne, and the rest of the Vikings have the weekend away from competition before hosting a CCIW semifinal match on Wednesday, November 4. North Park plays the winner of third-seeded Illinois Wesleyan and sixth-seeded Augustana at 7:00 p.m. CT inside the Holmgren Athletic Complex.
