CHICAGO, Ill. – Illinois Wesleyan showed why it's the 10th-ranked team in Division III women's basketball on Wednesday night, earning its 10th win in a row with an 81-49 triumph over North Park.
The Vikings put together a solid first quarter, staying tied with the Titans nearly seven minutes into the game, 9-9. North Park scored those first nine points on a layup by junior guard Elisha Dunlap followed by three pointers from senior guard Hailey Lyczak and senior guard Victoria Perry. However, the next three minutes IWU managed a 9-1 run and it was all Titans for the rest of the game.
IWU shot 56.25% (9-for-16) in the second quarter and 50% (9-for-18) in the third quarter to account for 49 points. Through the contest, the Titans utilized 27 points off turnovers and 22 fastbreak points thanks to 16 steals. Sawyer White, who entered this evening's contest seventh in all of DIII with 64 steals, managed six in tonight's game in only 18 minutes of court time.
For the Vikings, Perry scored 17 points, a game-high for the evening, and was 3-for-5 from deep. Junior guard Lauren McKnight came off the bench to add a spark in the paint, too, totaling nine points and a pair of rebounds. Speaking of rebounds, sophomore guard Kathryn Keehn had six, tying a game high.
What's Next?
Things don't get easier for North Park (3-12, 0-6 CCIW), who will travel to face 18th-ranked Millikin University (12-3, 4-2 CCIW) this coming Saturday, Jan. 13. Tipoff at the Griswold Center is set for 2:00 PM.
