Women's Tennis Splits Homecoming Matches

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The North Park women's tennis team split a pair of Homecoming matches on Friday and Saturday, sweeping Illinois Wesleyan (9-0) before a tightly-contested 6-3 loss to Wheaton on Saturday. The Vikings now maintain a winning conference record at 2-1, with an overall tally of 5-1 in 2023.

Against the Titans, #1 singles Hanna Zethraeus and #6 singles Lisen Bergqvist both posted gritty three-set performances before emerging victorious in the decider. Zethraeus went 6-4, 5-7, 10-2 while Bergqvist was equally stalwart at 6-4, 4-6, 10-2. Singles of Alexandra Ristfeldt, Katarina Carlberg, Carla Cazes, and Maddie Starr all swept through their opposition.

In doubles, Zethraeus and Cazes won 8-4, Carlberg and Ristfeldt won 8-3, and Starr and Vinson also went 8-4 to complete the IWU sweep.

North Park also gave a valiant effort in a 6-3 loss to Wheaton on Saturday. The Thunder who finished as the runner up in the 2022 CCIW Tournament, surrendered losses to #1 singles Zethraeus (7-5, 7-6) and #3 Carlberg (7-5, 1-6, 6-1) and #2 doubles of Ristfeldt and Carlberg (8-4). However, the Thunder snuck by the Vikings to keep their CCIW record perfect at 3-0.

Historical Notes

Zethraeus has the longest all-time winning streak for North Park women's tennis. Following her singles win against Wheaton, and dating back to an October 15, 2022 match against Millikin, she's rattled off 10-straight singles wins.

What's Next?

North Park (5-1, 2-1 CCIW) travels to Kenosha on Tuesday, September 26, for a 3:30 PM match at Carthage.
