Vikings Fall to Hornets Despite Late Goal

CHICAGO, Ill. -- In what was almost a shutout for Kalamazoo, North Park made a late game run to nearly force a draw. Freshman forward Caroline Sjøstedt scored the Vikings' only goal in the last three minutes of the game, assisted by sophomore defender Stella Alvstad, but fell by a score of 2-1.

The Vikings had a chance to dominate the possessions game against a Kalamazoo team that averaged only six shots a game.  However, the Hornets dominated the ball in both halves and tallied four times their season shot average with 24 shots.

Freshman forward Morgan Wehseler led the Vikings in attempts with one being on goal, while sophomore midfielder Angelica Børkeeiet had two shot attempts.

Kalamazoo showed their aggression early despite being a team that is rather reserved, intercepting several of the Vikings' passes throughout the game.  Sophomore Elle Bernas led the way with six shot attempts and one of the Hornets' two goals.  Sophomore defender Maddie Koffman, senior forward Holly Bowling, and freshman midfielder Ruby Hogan were active as well tonight combining for ten shots, with Bowling scoring the other of Kalamazoo's goals in the 53rd minute.

What's Next?

North Park now falls to 1-3-2 on the season.  They have an upcoming game against Dominican University (IL) in River Forest this Sunday, September 17, in which they look to get things going before heading into three straight home games; Lake Forest College followed by the start of CCIW play with a red-hot Augustana College (5-1) and Milikin University (2-2).
