Women's Tennis Dominates in Season Opener

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- North Park women's tennis opened their season on the road Friday night, throttling Concordia (IL) to the tune of a 9-0 win. Lisen Bergqvist picked up her first collegiate win in Friday's season opener.

North Park was strong at all positions across both their singles and doubles matches. While Concordia fought back a key points in most matches, the Vikings were able to consistently find ways to finish off games, sets, and ultimately each of the matches.  Three new Vikings contributed wins to the team victory - Alexandra Ristfeldt, Katarina Carlberg, and Lisen Bergqvist.

Team leader Hanna Zethreus, who is the Vikings' captain and #1 singles/doubles player, continued to turn in impressive performances as she extended a seven-game winning streak carried over from last spring.

Zethreus and Ristfeldt earned a shutout win at #1 doubles (8-0) while Teodora Kraljevic and Maddie Starr followed with a near shutout in #2 doubles at 8-2. Bergqvist and Carlberg rounded out doubles action with an 8-3 win.

In singles, #3 Carlberg, #4 Starr, and #6 Olivia De Luca all enjoyed 6-0 shutout wins in both games while Ella Darrow led things off with an 8-6 win in #7 singles.

"Overall with all starters from last year returning this year, and a solid recruiting class, we are looking forward to a very competitive season in the CCIW," said Coach Karl Soderstrom.
