Swanson's Ferocious Day at the Plate Powers Vikings' 9-7 Win Over Greenville

Swanson launches a pair over the left field wall

DAVENPORT, Fla. – A career day at the plate for Justin Swanson boosted the Vikings to a 9-7 win over Greenville on Tuesday afternoon.

Greenville marked the first run of the game on Schneider's RBI groundout before Mokris launched a solo homer to left-center field in the third inning and Garric scored on a wild pitch in the fourth. However, the Vikings returned fire in their half of the inning. Swanson started the rally with a solo shot to left field before Garrett Bragg's double down the left field line brought Nathan Sommerfeld and Bobby Bartlett home. However, Greenville pulled ahead once more with an RBI single in the fifth inning.

Bartlett came through in the clutch, singling through the left side of the infield with two outs to plate Alex DiVito. Once more, though, Greenville tacked on three more in the eighth inning on run-scoring singles.

North Park showcased one of its biggest innings of the season when Carlos Martinez banged a ground-rule double to left field and Swanson launched his second homer of the game, a no-doubt, three-run shot to left, to plate Arakaki and Martinez in the eighth inning.

Reliever Frank Kalemba took care of the rest, not allowing a hit or run in the ninth to pick up his first win of the season/

Quick Hits:

  • Martinez and Swanson each collect three hits
  • Martinez 3-for-5 with a double
  • Swanson 3-for-3 with two homers, a double, and an intentional walk
  • Bartlett and Bragg each go 2-for-4
  • Kalemba works two innings, allowing only a pair of hits, and no runs
