APPLETON, Wis. -- The Vikings women's basketball team tipped off their 2023-24 on Wednesday night, taking a loss at Lawrence University by a score of 65-57.
Lawrence outscored the Vikings in the first quarter 19-9, as North Park was 4-for-16 from the field while Lawrence was a bit better at 8-for-19.
North Park responded by out shooting Lawrence to scores of 16-13 and 18-17 in the second and third.
Trailing for the entire game, North Park began to battle back in the final quarter. Senior guard Hailey Lyczak dropped in a layup before 2023 CCIW Newcomer of the Year Victoria Perry added one of her own as the Vikings were now in a two-possession game, 52-47. Lyczak kept the fourth quarter magic going with a bucket beyond the arc before adding a game-tying jumper with four minutes to go. A three pointer by freshman guard Aliyah Hershberger gave North Park its only fourth quarter lead, but the Lawrence Vikings would pull away on seven layups, a handful of layups, and quality defense.
