RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The North Park Women's basketball team outclassed the Dominican Stars in every way in a 70-40 road win on Saturday afternoon. Senior guard Hailey Lyczak led all scorers with 22 points, nearing a double-double with seven boards.
The Vikings caught fire early and blew the Stars out of the water in the first quarter. However, after a game-opening score by Kathryn Keehn at 9:15, a two-and-a-half minute scoring drought carried on before the Stars' Kameron Goodman evened the score at 2-2. North Park scored 13 of the game's next 14 points on layups by freshman guard Aliya Hershberger, freshman center Brooke Panush, senior guard Victoria Perry, and a jumper and 3-pointer by Lyczak to go ahead, 14-3, with 2:33 to go. North Park held the Stars to just five points in the first quarter, and only 14 points in the first half, to hold a significant 35-16 lead at the half.
This dominance would continue over the next two quarters with the Vikings posting scores of 20-9 and 23-11 in the third and fourth quarter to win handily, 70-40.
In Vikings' first win, they limited their fouls to 10 in the game, surrendering only two free chances for the Stars. North Park also had 15 steals and out-rebounded Dominican 52-43.
