NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Becoming the third Viking named a College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) men's soccer student-athlete of the week, Christian Vaaland was selected as the league's defensive standout on Tuesday morning. Vaaland joins teammates Love Brandt and William de Carro on the league's weekly list of top performers.
Vaaland led the Vikings to their fifth shutout win of the season in a 4-0 CCIW-opening win over Augustana on September 24. In an earlier shutout win against Lake Forest (9/20) Vaaland opened the scoring with a blistering free kick goal.
This season, Vaaland has a pair of goals in nine shots. He was a first-team All-CCIW pick in 2021 and guided the Vikings to a shutout win in the NCAA playoffs against St. Olaf (11/19).
