KENOSHA, Wis. – The North Park University baseball team utilized 12 hits and 11 walks to capture a 10-2 win over the Carthage College Firebirds on Sunday afternoon.
The Vikings put three runs on the board in the first inning of play on an RBI sac fly from Ranko Stevanovic and a two-run single off the bat of Jim Zay. Justin Swanson's RBI single in the second inning and Reece Arakaki's RBI single in the third extended the North Park lead to 5-2.
Carthage broke their scoreless skid with a two-run homer by Bryce Pryblinski in the third inning, but the North Park offense would duplicate what they did in the first three innings by scoring three more runs in the fourth and one run each in the fifth and sixth innings.
That three-run fourth inning featured a sac fly by Bobby Bartlett and some errant play by the Carthage defense, including a wild pitch and an outfield throwing error. North Park capped the day's scoring with an RBI single for Stevanovic in the fifth inning and RBI single by Brad Maurer in the sixth inning.
Viking starter Ethan Sund showcased another dominant start, tossing 6.2 innings while striking out nine and allowing only three hits. Reliever Brett Brueske worked 2.1 innings, allowing just two hits to the Firebirds.
