CHICAGO, Ill. – The North Park softball team split a doubleheader with Carthage College on Senior Day, April 19. The Vikings took game one, 3-0, before dropping game two, 4-2.
All four seniors played a large role in the game one win.
Alyssa Malicki, provided the first run on the game when she scored fellow senior Caitlyn Webb on an RBI single in the Vikings' first trip to the plate. A third senior honored, Rachael Feazelle, showcased one of the best performances of her career in the pitcher's circle; she threw a complete game shutout with three strikeouts, one walk, and just five hits allowed. Not to be forgotten, fourth senior and all-conference shortstop Alyssa Aragon slugged her eighth triple of the season to right-center field in the sixth inning. Not only did this add an insurance run, but it broke the NPU single season record for triples (7) and tied the RBI mark (39). Malicki drove one more run in on a sixth-inning single, scoring Aragon, as the Vikings made quick work of the Firebirds.
Game two did not go quite as well, but a bright spot was a unique first career home run for Isa Santos. In the third inning, with Webb as the runner on first base, Santos sent a frozen rope up the right field line, motoring all around the bases for an inside-the-park home run.
However, this is the only offense the Vikings could provide. On the other side, Carthage utilized some scattered scoring and seven hits to secure a 4-2 win.
Quick Hits:
- Aragon becomes single-season triples leader, ties RBI mark
- Feazelle with a CG shutout, punching out three
- Malicki 3-for-3 in game one with 2 RBI
- Santos, Maddy Tan 2-for-3 in game two as Santos circles the bases on an inside-the-parker
