ELMHURST, Ill. – The North Park softball team won one and lost one in a doubleheader with Elmhurst University Tuesday evening, as they followed up the opening 5-0 defeat with a 6-4 victory in game two. An RBI single from Alyssa Aragon in the first inning of game two allowed her to pass Jessica Mena's 2007 record of 39 RBIs in a season. Shortly after, a two-run single by Aragon gave NPU the lead that they would not surrender as well letting Aragon pass former teammate Hayley Jackson (2017-2020) for the second most RBIs in school history.
The first game had Vikings victim to a pitching gem from Elmhurst ace Sydni Gizynski. Isa Santos had a two-hit game for North Park, while Rachael Feazelle was the only other NPU player to grab a hit in the contest. Feazelle was handed the loss for North Park, striking out six.
Final: Elmhurst 5, North Park 0
Aragon broke the tie with Mena right away in game two when she scored Caitlyn Webb on an RBI single in the first. Santos then made in 2-0 when Alyssa Malicki scored the speedster on a sac fly, then Aragon was brought across home plate due to a single from Feazelle. That run scored meant Aragon is now tied with Paige Massa for third all-time in career runs scored at 98.
The Bluejays rallied for four runs in the fourth to take the lead by one, but it was a big sixth and clutch hitting from the Alyssas that put the game on ice for the visiting Vikings. After Maddy Tan walked, Webb reached on an error on an attempted sac bunt, and Santos Walked, Aragon stepped up to deliver a clutch single that scored Tan and Webb and put North Park up by one. Malicki gave NPU some much needed insurance as a follow-up when she singled up the middle to score Santos and make it 6-4.
Malicki was also solid in the circle for North Park, picking up the win, going all seven innings and allowing just one earned run. She also had five strikeouts to just one walk.
Final: North Park 6, Elmhurst 4
