RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- The North Park University baseball team lost to Concordia University (IL), 12-7, in a back-and-forth affair on Monday afternoon.
North Park scratched a run across the board in their first trip to the plate when Jim Zay singled home Cole Fiorenza. However, the Cougars would mark a run in both the second and third innings.
Nathan Sommerfeld put the Vikings ahead in the fourth inning on a two-run homer, the first of his career, but Concordia scored four more runs in their half of the inning.
In their highest-scoring half-inning of the afternoon, North Park utilized three walks, a balk, and a pair of Cougar errors to pull ahead, 7-6, in the fifth inning. Once more, Concordia would neutralize the NPU momentum and take the lead following a two-run fifth inning.
The Vikings were held scoreless in the final four frames, as the Cougars escaped with a 12-7 win.
