CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Vikings women's basketball team partook in University of Chicago's Midway Classic this weekend, matching up with the Maroons on Friday followed by the Calvin Knights on Saturday. North Park would go on to lose both, moving to 2-3 on the season.
The Vikings opened up the weekend with an early lead over U Chicago through one quarter spearheaded by Victoria Perry, who poured in 8 points in the opening period. Upon resume, the Maroons soon took the lead over with 6:30 remaining in the 1st half and held on for the game's remainder through a 49-72 finish. The Vikings kept within reach through three quarters, but a one-sided 4th put an end to North Park's comeback hopes.
Victoria Perry continued on with her strong start to lead the Vikings with 18 points and 3 steals, shooting 7-11 from the FT line. Freshman Felicia Sunden added 8 points to go with a team-high 8 rebounds that was matched by Chantel Hairston.
Saturday's game pit the Vikings against the Calvin Knights, entering fresh off a comeback victory against Colorado College the night before. Esther Miller, who struggled against Chicago to the tune of 1-6 from the field, bounced back in a major way with a 29-point, 5-steal performance on 11-18 shooting to lead Vikings scorers. Victoria Perry again came through by following up Friday's performance with a 16-point effort on 4-5 shooting from deep. Despite the great performances from the Vikings stars, the Knights had a star performance of their own to lead them to victory as Gabby Timmer recorded a monstrous 36 points, 18 rebounds, and 4 blocks. The score went final at 73-79 which brings the Vikings below .500 through 5 games.
North Park next takes the court on November 27th when they travel to Olivet, Michigan to take on the Comets, with game time set for 1:00 P.M. CST.
