OLIVET, Mich. -- The North Park women's basketball team faced off with the Olivet Comets on Sunday afternoon, taking home a 57-47 victory to move back to .500 on the season. The Vikings now sport a 3-3 record as they head into CCIW play this upcoming week.
The Vikings started slow to the tune of 7 points through the opening quarter on 3-16 shooting. While those shooting woes continued into the 2nd, North Park was able to sink 7-8 FTs in the period and lock down defensively to narrow the Olivet lead to 19-21 by the half.
The 2nd half marked a massive shift for the Vikings' offense, with the team sinking more shots in the 3rd quarter than the entire 1st half. Esther Miller helped spark the flame with 6 of the Vikings' 15 3rd quarter points, but Olivet kept pace with 15 of their own to maintain their 2-point lead.
Freshman Kathryn Keehn took over the game from then on out, rattling off 10 straight points as part of a 10-0 Vikings run to open the 4th quarter. On her streak, Keehn shot 3-3 from the field with 2-2 shooting from deep and the FT line. The Comets as a team only managed 11 points in the 4th as the Vikings' defense solidified the win.
Following the comeback win, North Park embarks on conference play this upcoming Wednesday when they host Millikin (3-3, 0-0 CCIW) at 7:00 P.M.
