DECATUR, Ill. -- The Vikings women's soccer team took on the Millikin Big Blue on Saturday, falling by a score of 0-1 and moving to 0-1-1 in conference play.
The 1st half was a scoreless affair, although the Vikings peppered Millikin with 11 shots including 6 of which that were on goal. North Park's defense denied the Big Blue from doing the same, allowing just a single shot through the game's opening 45 minutes. That try did not require an effort from GK Emily LaSalle who made her return from a recent injury.
The script flipped somewhat in the 2nd half. NPU still led Millikin in shots, taking 7 to the Big Blue's 6, but Millikin was able to get 5 on target compared to 3 from the Vikings. A shot from Millikin's Elly Hermanson in the 83rd minute proved to be the difference maker, marking the first and only goal of the match. The Vikings' Aila Durakovich was able to make one last attempt at the goal before the 90th minute, but it was unable to find the back of the net, finalizing the 0-1 score.
The women take on Elmhurst next Wednesday evening at the Holmgren Athletic Complex. Game time is set for 7:00 PM for what will be NPU's 3rd conference matchup of the season, where they'll look for their first win in CCIW play.
