CHICAGO, Ill. – The North Park women's soccer team got in the CCIW win column on Wednesday night, taking a 3-0 win over Elmhurst University.
The Vikings threatened early with a third-minute corner kick by Kajsa Mansson and shot on goal for Sofie Swedberg in the 7th minute. However, despite six shots on goal in 40 minutes for North Park, the game remained scoreless. That is, until Megan Tauscheck bolted towards the box and fired a shot that could not be grabbed by the Elmhurst keeper, bouncing out to Abigail Balmaseda who finished the job with a 41st minute goal.
After halftime, North Park's offense added another goal in the 52nd minute on an extreme-angle free kick from about 15 yards out by Kajsa Mansson. Placed perfectly, Mansson's free kick skipped into the lower left corner of the net for the second goal of the game.
Sofie Swedberg completed the trifecta after gaining possession from the Bluejays, hustling 40 yards down field, and lobbing a dead-on shot into the upper right corner of the net.
Holding the Bluejays to just a single shot on goal, North Park picked up its first CCIW win of the season, 3-0.
