CHICAGO, Ill.- The North Park men's soccer team vaulted to a 5-0 victory over Loras College on Wednesday night at the Holmgren Athletic Complex. Two goals and an assist by William de Carro capitalized an all-around team effort to lift to Vikings to 3-0 on the young season.
Both teams fluttered with chances in the early going including a couple last ditch tackles by North Park to keep a zero on the scoreboard for Loras. Just after the 18-minute mark, de Carro looped in a shot from 40 yards out that levitated over the DuHawks goalkeeper's arms and after a bounce it somehow crossed the goal line for an improbable opener.
The 25-minute mark signaled a flurry of goals for the Vikings, starting with another ripper from de Carro that boomed bar down against the crossbar and over the line.
In the next minute, Angel Barriga took a ball from de Carro cut inside from the left and smacked a hard right-footed bender that swished the back of the net for another. One minute after that, Peder Olsen finished the flurry after he received a cross from Barriga that he powered in the back of the net to make it 4-0 Vikings.
Halftime: North Park 4, Loras 0
The Loras defense held strong in half number two, taking over a half hour for the NPU offense to crack. Finally, it was Jesse Anamoo that fired in a cross to Olsen who fired another shot in to score a goal that tied him for the most goals in North Park men's soccer history. Alfred Sward made two saves to keep the clean sheet for the Vikings.
Final: North Park 5, Loras 0
