ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The 12th-ranked North Park University men's soccer team hit a bump in the road against undefeated Washington University in St. Louis on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 3-2 loss.
While neither team would reach double-digit shots in the match, the Bears were able to mark a pair of goals within the first 20 minutes of the non-conference contest. The first arrived in the 11th minute off the foot of John Daniels before Owen Culver sent in a 19th minute free-kick goal to grasp a 2-1 lead.
The Vikings would respond six minutes later when Gustav Ericsson sent a cross to Oskar Safstrom, who would head the ball past the WashU keeper for a 25th-minute goal.
WashU tallied one more goal in the 78th minute to regain a two-goal lead as the Vikings had a lot of ground to make up in little time.
Unfortunately, despite a late goal off the foot of Jesse Anamoo at 89:12, the Vikings would get upset by the Bears, 3-2.
Quick Hits:
- North Park took six corners while totaling as many shots
- WashU with just four shots on goal, but three goals for their efforts
- Anamoo and Safstrom find the back of the net
