CHICAGO, Ill. -- The North Park women's soccer team continued their undefeated start to the season with a 2-0 victory over the Rockford University Regents on Friday night at the Holmgren Athletic Complex. In the victory, NPU outshot the Rockford 22-8, including 14-2 shots on goal ratio.
The scoring got starting for North Park when freshman defender dropped a great through ball to Agnes Bolin down the right wing. Bolin took a few touches before floating in a cross that found the foot of Ida Elise Hjelle who slapped it in the bottom right corner of the net for a 1-0 NPU lead only 12 minutes into the game.
Less than three minutes later, the Vikings struck again, this time Hjelle dished a pass to Bolin who cut inside and lasered in a cross from the top of the box with her right foot. Rockford goalkeeper Elizabeth Elison had no chance to get to it as the ball soared over her head and under the crossbar for a 2-0 NPU lead in the 14th minute.
The Vikings would total three more shots on frame in the rest of the half, but none would get past Elison. Senior keeper Theresa Weiss would pitch a shutout in her 45 minutes of work, totaling one save.
Halftime: North Park 2, Rockford 0
North Park would again force Rockford into playing defense most of the second half. The Vikings attacked the goal to the tune of 13 shots and nine of them on target. Elison stayed strong though, stuffing Clara Wernbo and Hjelle both in a tremendous double save in the 62nd minute.
Freshman keeper Emily LaSalle saw her first collegiate action in the second half, making one save on a total of four Regents shots in the half.
Final: North Park 2, Rockford 0
