KENOSHA, Wis. -- Two games and two mirrored results took place on the campus of Carthage College on Saturday afternoon, as the North Park baseball team won the first game 13-2 before being on the receiving end of a 13-2 loss in game two. Senior shortstop Jake Reinhardt kept his unbelievable pace up, slugging three more home runs in the doubleheader.
Junior right fielder Logan Peters was the first Viking to score in the first inning, trotting home on a wild pitch.
Following a scoreless second inning, the Vikings extended their lead when senior center fielder Jared Cantu tripled into right field, Peters walked, and Reinhardt put one into the trees beyond the center field fence.
Carthage got by with a scoreless fourth inning, but North Park scored at least one run in every ensuing inning. Two of those late runs arrived off the bat of Reinhardt, who belted his second homer of the game into the right-center field marsh, as the Vikings cruised to a 13-2 win.
On the mound, North Park lefty Bobby Bartlett worked eight innings, struck out seven, and allowed just two earned runs en route to his third win of the season. Left-handed reliever Brett Brueske finished Bartlett's work with a scoreless ninth inning of relief.
Unfortunately, the second game of the day was a polar opposite of the first. The lone bright spots were a first-inning homer, once more off the bat of Reinhardt, and a 2-for-2 game at the plate for freshman Justin Swanson.
