WAUKESHA, Wis. – The North Park University baseball team could not overcome a four-run first inning, as the Vikings fell to Carroll University, 6-4.
The Vikings manufactured the first run of the game when junior right fielder Logan Peters doubled to left field, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored easily on another pull-side double by senior shortstop Jake Reinhardt.
However, the Pioneers drove a two-run double and two-run homer in their first trip to the plate to hold a 4-2 lead early.
Carroll added two more runs in the second inning, but the Vikings would negate that in their next trip to the plate. Sophomore third baseman Jim Zay led the inning off with a single to left center and sophomore first baseman Bobby Bartlett was plunked to put two on for senior center fielder Jared Cantu, who moved the pair up on a sac bunt. After a flyout, Reinhardt slapped a single to center field to bring Zay and Bartlett home, narrowing the deficit to two runs.
Unfortunately, the only other run for North Park arrived in the sixth inning on an RBI single by senior left fielder Brandon Davis, plating senior catcher Ranko Stevanovic. This was not enough, as North Park fell, 6-4.
FINAL: Carroll 6, North Park 4
Quick Hits:
