Kenosha, Wis. – The North Park softball team was defeated in both games against Carthage College Tuesday evening, losing 9-1 (six innings) and 7-4.
Game One
The Firebirds put up five runs in the first inning of game one to take firm control in the contest. The only run for North Park in the first game came from the bat of Alyssa Aragon who slapped a triple to right center field that scored Ellie Manderfeld. The Carthage bats continued to knock home runs, though, and when they scored on a single in the bottom of the sixth, it was enough to clinch a 9-1 mercy rule victory.
Game Two
Both scoring plays for North Park in game two came via the home run, albeit very different types of home runs. With NPU down 3-0 in the fifth, Manderfeld was able to tally a three-run inside-the-park home run that knotted the game at three. The homer scored Erin Penn and Alyssa Malicki. Malicki hit the other home run in the seventh, a moon shot over the left field fence, but the solo shot was too little, too late, with North Park falling 7-4.
What's Next?
North Park (14-14, 8-14 CCIW) play all of their remaining contests at home starting with a doubleheader versus North Central on Thursday, April 22nd. First pitch for game one is 3 p.m.
