CHICAGO, Ill. -- The North Park University women's volleyball team opened up their unconventional spring season in an equally unconventional fashion. The Vikings tipped their season off inside the Helwig Recreation Center, falling to No. 2 Carthage College in three close sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-23).
Despite the three-set defeat, the Vikings played the Firebirds tough and made few mistakes. In total, North Park sent in 45 kills, led by 14 from junior outside hitter Brilynd Pence and nine from freshmen Taylor Guy and Raghen Walker.
Sophomore Christina Gatta accounted for 38 assists, while also leading the Vikings with 18 digs.
