Chicago, Ill. – The North Park men's volleyball team came up win a big rally in the third set, but the Duhawks of Loras College were able to pull past the Vikings and get the win by a score of 3-1 (26-24, 25-19, 24-26, 25-19) on Wednesday night at NPU Gymnasium.
North Park took an early 2-1 on an Armando Quinones kill to go up in the first set. Soon after, the Vikings went up 5-3 on a big block from Johnny Euler and Erik Bullard. The two teams went back and forth until a Bullard kill and an attacking error from Loras knotted the score at 24-all before the Duhawks scored the final two points to take the first set. In the second set, a kill from Emmanuel Eugene and an ace from Noah Salazar but North Park ahead 9-8. Loras would catch fire to win the set 25-19.
The third set had points go both ways as North Park had to climb themselves out of an 8-4 deficit early. A little later as the score was 16-12 in favor of the Duhawks, two kills from Bullard and a kill from Frank Mauigoa to cut the deficit to one. Soon after, Quinn Robinson slapped a kill to equal the squads at 23-23. After each team grabbed another point, Robinson grabbed another kill to put North Park up 25-24. Right after, Mauigoa and Robinson combined for a block on a Duhawks attack to stamp the fourth set win for the Vikings. Loras flew off to a good start in the fourth set and ended up finishing it off with 25-19 win.
