DECATUR, Ill. -- The North Park University baseball team dropped a heartbreaker on the road against Millikin University, dropping a 4-3 decision at Workman Baseball Field on Sunday afternoon.
Once more, senior third baseman Ranko Stevanovic got the Vikings going early with a run-scoring single into left field in the first inning. The single plated senior shortstop Jake Reinhardt, who drove a two-out double down the left-field line in the previous at-bat.
The Vikings added two more runs in the third inning when Reinhardt smacked a triple into right-center field and scored on an RBI groundout off the bat of sophomore first baseman Bobby Bartlett. After a throwing error moved Bartlett to second, senior designated hitter Justin Woolbright skipped an RBI single through the right side, plating Bartlett.
On the mound, North Park starting pitcher Tyler Banks threw 3.2 innings of no-hit baseball. before the Big Blue broke through in the fifth. Millikin's McGahey drove home the first runs for the Big Blue on a two-run double to right-center field, as the Vikings held a narrow 3-2 lead.
However, in the seventh inning, Millikin's Kane drove a two-out, RBI double into right-center field and came around later to score on a wild pitch to secure a 4-3 lead for the Big Blue.
North Park threatened with the bases loaded in the top of the ninth inning and nobody out, but the big hit didn't arrive, as the Vikings fell to the Big Blue, 4-3.
