DECATUR, Ill. – The North Park University men's volleyball team made quick work of Millikin University on the road, marking their third-straight sweep on Wednesday day. The Vikings won the three sets by scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-11.
To open play in Decatur, the Vikings and Big Blue battled for an advantage to no avail, as the teams traded leads to an 11-11 tie. However, North Park was on the receiving end of three Millikin errors while adding kills from Armando Quinones and Phillip Duros to take a 15-12 lead. Millikin narrowed the deficit to three points at 17-14, but kills from Erik Bullard, Teddy Gedville, and Quinones put the Vikings a point away from taking the set, 24-17. A Big Blue service error accounted for the final point in the set, as North Park took the opener, 25-17.
The second set of the night showcased peaks and valleys of momentum, to say the least. At one point in the set, the Vikings held a 18-12 and appeared to be in cruise control. However, a lapse in offensive sharpness by North Park allowed Millikin to work their way back in, knotting the set at 23 all. Thankfully, a kill by Quinones and Big Blue attacking error put the Vikings over, 25-23.
Putting the cherry on top and completing the sweep of Millikin, North Park dominated the final set of the evening thanks to 14 kills and a red-hot .667 hitting percentage.
FINAL: North Park 3, Millikin 0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-11)
