Red-Hot Viking Men's Soccer Team Nearly Reaches Double-Digit Goals Total

ELMHURST, Ill. – The North Park University men's soccer team put on an offensive clinic at Langhorst Field Saturday night, blowing out the Bluejays by a score of 8-0.

To say the Vikings scored early would be a massive understatement. Christian Vaaland took possession before sliding a pass over to Jostein Blindheim, who sent a long, looping pass from five yards behind the midfield line towards Peder Olsen. With surgical precision, Olsen, marked by two defenders, jumped into the air, stuck his left foot out, and lifted the ball over the Bluejay keeper for the first goal of the match just 28 seconds in.

Elmhurst managed to keep the Vikings to just that goal for the next 32 minutes of play, but the scoring was far from over.

Before the half ended, William de Carro burned the Elmhurst defense for goals in the 34th and 39th minutes while Tobias Lunde sent in goal number four in the 44th minute.

Following the halftime break, Christian Vaaland, off an assist from Olsen, opened the second half scoring with a goal in the 51st minute. Next, Gustav Ericsson successfully converted on a PK goal and minutes later Angel Barriga found the back of the net for the seventh goal of the game.

Georgia Kyosev added a goal in the 88th minute as the cherry on top, his first goal as a Viking.

FINAL: North Park 8, Elmhurst 0

Quick Hits:

  • Four points for Olsen (goal, two assists) and de Carro (two goals)
  • Barriga, Vaaland, Ericsson, Kyosev, and Lunde all add goals
  • Assists for Blindheim, Jerry Sheikh and Ericsson
  • Sward with another clean sheet, saving the only shot he faced
  • 20 shots, 15 on goal for NPU

Most Lopsided CCIW Road Win for NPU Men's Soccer

Tonight's 8-0 win is the most lopsided road win the North Park University men's soccer team has ever had over another College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) opponent. The Vikings have eight-goal wins over non-conference opponents MacMurray (2007) and Albion (2019). North Park's 9-0 win over Millikin University in 1995 remains the widest margin of victory against an in-conference opponent.

What's Next?

North Park (8-3-0, 3-0-0 CCIW) heads to rival Wheaton College this coming Wednesday, October 6. Kickoff at Joe Bean Stadium will be 7 p.m.
