PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The North Park University women's soccer team lost a match on Monday afternoon against UW-Platteville by a score of 2-4. This marks the Vikings final non-conference game of 2021, as they'll go on to face three CCIW opponents to wrap up the regular season.
UW-Platteville's Alyssa Peterson opened the game up with a 20th minute goal to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead. Fifteen minutes later, the Vikings had their opportunity to equalize off a corner kick, and executed to perfection. A cross from Agnes Bohlin sailed right to Danielle Boudakh who headed in her first goal of the season to tie the score at 1-1. Thanks to efforts from Bohlin, Boudakh, and GK Theresa Weiss (nine first-half saves), the Vikings were able to go into halftime even with the Pioneers.
The second half started off similarly to the first with UW-Platteville taking an early lead, this time being helped out by the opposition, as North Park ceded an own-goal. This favor would be repaid shortly thereafter as UW-Platteville committed a foul in the box, giving the Vikings a chance to even things with a penalty kick. Kajsa Mansson came through for her side to tie the game up at 2-2.
Yet again, UW-Platteville was able to establish a lead on the Vikings, and this time they did not look back. Lauren Lodico's 74th minute goal proved to be all that the Pioneers needed to secure victory, but Lydia Smith came in with insurance in the 82nd to reach the game's final score of 2-4.
Despite the loss, the Vikings offense continues to look improved with another two-goal performance after a stretch where they struggled to put the ball in the net. They'll look to keep this trend alive against Carthage on Saturday, October 23rd at 5pm in yet another matchup across the state border.
