CHICAGO, Ill. – The North Park University men's volleyball team hosted its first tri-match of the 2020 season, splitting with Adrian College (L, 3-0) and Maranatha Baptist University (W, 3-0) on Saturday afternoon.

North Park's best set happened to be its first, as the Vikings forced extra play. The Vikings turned a 23-17 deficit into a 24-24 tie after a flurry of Bulldog attacking errors, kills from freshman outside hitter Armando Quinones, and a service ace from sophomore setter Moises Zavala.

Unfortunately, Adrian capped the set with a pair of kills to take the opener, 26-24.

In the following sets, the Bulldogs posted .500 and .440 hitting percentages, driving 46 kills in the match, to earn a straight-sets win.

FINAL: Adrian 3, North Park 0 (26-24, 25-16, 25-14)

The Vikings were able to right the ship in their second match of the day against Maranatha Baptist University.

This time on the receiving side of a 26-24 opening-set win, North Park carried a .206 hitting percentage with 38 kills. The Vikings kept the Sabercats out of rhythm, holding their opponent to a .068 hitting percentage.

Powered by 31 assists from Zavala and six blocks from junior middle blocker Phillip Duros, the Vikings earned a straight-sets win over the Sabercats.

FINAL: North Park 3, Maranatha Baptist (26-24, 26-15, 25-21)

Quick Hits:

  • Quinones totaled 20 kills in the six sets of action
