RIVER FOREST, Ill. – After upsetting the nation's No.14 team in WashU this past Sunday, the North Park University women's volleyball team dropped a heart-breaker to Concordia-Chicago, 3-2 (23-25, 15-25, 25-14, 25-20, 13-15).
The Cougars pounced on the Vikings in the opening sets of the night, squeaking out a 25-23 victory in set one before earning a dominant 25-15 second set win.
However, the Vikings responded with their best set of the match.
Powered by a .282 hitting percentage and 14 kills, North Park worked a convincing 25-14 set win to avoid a devastating straight-sets loss.
The Vikings also took the following set, 25-20, after utilizing six-straight points late in the fourth set. Freshman Kate Widman started the rally with a kill before a pair of Cougar errors and a service ace from senior Bethany Geidner put North Park up 24-19. Widman put the exclamation point on the set with a set-point kill, forcing a fifth set.
Unfortunately, Concordia-Chicago took advantage of a .074 hitting percentage by North Park in the final set of the night as the Vikings fell, 15-13.
