NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- The North Park University women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 win over Saint Mary's College (IN) on Friday night.
The Vikings jumped on the Belles in the opening set of the night, powered by a pair of service aces from freshman Christina Gatta to begin the scoring. Following the service aces, junior Kenzie Krueger and Gatta sent in kills and a Belle attacking error put the Vikings up 5-0.
Never losing the lead through the rest of the set, the Vikings grabbed the match-opening set 25-19.
Saint Mary's turned the tables in the second set, jumping ahead 4-0 on a string of North Park errors. However, the Vikings would overcome an 11-17 deficit with a pair of kills from Niki Ahlstrand, a block by Reagan Clement, and a number of attacking errors from the Belles to capture a 23-22 lead. Clement tacked on another kill for the 24th point and freshmen Emily Nytko and Kailyn Matthews teamed up for a block in the final point, giving the Vikings a hard-earned 25-23 set win.
The Vikings dropped the third set, 17-25, but powered back to take the match with a 25-22 fourth-set win.
