Women's volleyball snaps skid with straight-sets win on Saturday

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. -- The North Park University women's volleyball team snapped a six-match slide with an emphatic 3-0 win over the Milwaukee School of Engineering on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings earned the victory in straight sets fashion, winning set one 25-17, set two 25-15, and set three 25-20.

Initially trailing 4-9 in the opening set of the night, North Park took 10 of the next 11 points to jump ahead, 14-10. MSOE would close in at 14-13, but the Vikings weathered the storm to take the first set.

North Park started the second set of the match slow but mounted a comeback in the middle of the set. Carrying a .259 hitting percentage with nine kills, the Vikings turned a tie into a 21-11 lead after outscoring MSOE 15-3. Holding on to that lead, North Park was in the driver's seat moving into the final set.

Following the same pattern, North Park trailed MSOE early but traded points in the middle of the set to the tune of a 10-10 tie. Returning to form, freshman setter Christina Gatta utilized a kill and three service aces during that seven point run to give the Vikings a 13-10 lead. Never looking back, North Park went on to earn a 25-19 set win, taking the match in straight sets.

Quick Hits:

  • Gatta racked up six service aces and 27 assists
  • Freshman Kailyn Matthews led both teams with 11 kills
  • Senior Bethany Geidner had a match-leading two blocks
