WHEATON, Ill. -- The North Park University women's volleyball team opened its College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) part of the schedule with a 1-3 loss to Wheaton College on Wednesday night.
The Vikings started their first set well, quickly grabbing a 5-1 lead on a pair of Thunder attacking errors and kills from freshmen Kate Widman and Kailyn Matthews. However, Wheaton nullified the early momentum with seven straight points to lead 7-5.
North Park worked their way back in, tying the set at 11-11, but Wheaton would go on a 9-2 run to recapture its lead, as the Vikings dropped set one, 18-25.
Settling in for the second set of the night, the Vikings put their best foot forward. Utilizing their most accurate set of the night at .268 with 15 kills, North Park responded with a 25-23 set two win.
Unfortunately, Wheaton went on to take the match with 25-12 and 25-17 wins as North Park lost its conference opener, 1-3.
