CHICAGO -- The North Park University men's volleyball team fell in four sets (20-25, 25-22, 19-25, 20-25) to the Judson University Eagles inside North Park Gym on Tuesday.
In the first set, the Eagles started hot winning 9 of the first 11 and took a 9-2 lead. The Vikings gained a little momentum scoring five of the next seven points highlighted by a kill by Arthur Barczak. The Vikings pulled within three at 10-7. After Judson marked the next four points, a kill by Nathan Nguyen put the Vikings back within striking distance at 14-8. North Park scored three of the next five points and during that stretch, Nguyen registered a pair of kills.
Ultimately, Judson scored 10 more points including 6 of the last 8 points to win the first set 25-20.
First Game: Judson 25 North Park 20
The Vikings started the second set winning 6 of the first 10 points highlighted by blocks by Jackson Goo and Moises Zavala and a kill by Barczak. After the Vikings and Eagles split the next 19 points, Judson outscored North Park 6-4 in the next 10 points, but North Park still led 16-14.
The Eagles pulled within one at the 22-21 mark, but kills by Daniel Porche and Barczak lifted the Vikings to a 25-22 set win.
Game Two: North Park 25 Judson 22
Judson captured 6 of the first 10 points of the third set. Judson carried that momentum winning five of the next six points and led 11-5. The Vikings showed some life winning four of the next six points spotlighted by a kill by Zavala making the score 16-13 Judson. Judson, however notched 8 of the next 11 points making the score 24-16.
The Vikings pulled within five highlighted by one of a career-high 14 kills for Frank Mauigoa, but Judson came away with the set win on a service error and won the set 25-19.
Game Three: Judson 25 North Park 19
Judson outscored North Park 6-4, including tallying four straight points, to start the fourth set. During that stretch, Goo had two kills, where Mauigoa notched one. Judson kept its momentum going and marked four straight points making the score 9-4. However, the Vikings scored 7 of the next 10 points and cut the Eagle lead to 13-10. Zavala recorded a service ace during that run. Judson grew their lead scoring four of the next five points making the score 17-12.
The Vikings pulled within four of the Eagles at 23-19, but ultimately Judson took the fourth set and the match 25-20.
Game Four: Judson 25 North Park 20
