North Park Men's Volleyball Falls to #5 Dominican University

RIVER FOREST, Ill. -- After a week off, the North Park University men's volleyball team fell to the #5 Dominican University Stars in straight sets on Friday night.

The Stars dominated in the opening set, running away with the opener 25-9. The Stars were perfect in the first set, notching 8 kills and no errors.

However, the Vikings were not going to roll over in the second set. North Park kept up with the nation's fifth-ranked team to the tune of a 6-6 tie. Next, Angelo Johns marked back-to-back service aces to capture a 9-7 lead.

North Park and Dominican would trade points through a large portion of the second set until the Stars took a marginal lead at 17-15 on kills from Trey Cowan and Adrian Cebula.

The Stars maintained their lead through the set as Troy Kates sent in the exclamation point kill to take a 25-20 set win.

In the final set of the night, the Vikings were able to open the set with a small 3-1 lead after a kill from Jackson Goo and Dominican attacking error.

A string of inconsistent hitting put the Stars back in the match, as they took 8 of the next 9 points and a 9-4 lead.

Unfortunately, the high-powered attack of Dominican followed through the rest of the set, as the Stars took the third set, and match, 25-17.

Quick Hits:

  • Angelo Johns led the Vikings with 7 kills and 2 service aces
  • Moises Zavala and Jackson Goo both added 3 blocks
  • The Stars totaled a .429 hitting percentage, 34 kills, and 9 service aces
