CHICAGO, Ill. —The North Park University women's volleyball team swept the North Central College Cardinals, 3-0, inside the North Park Gym on Wednesday evening.
In the first set, the Cardinals and Vikings each scored five points. At 12-11 Vikings, North Park marked six of the next eight points, making the score 20-14. The Vikings would only allow two more points the rest of the way, taking the first set 25-16. In the set, NPU hit .294.
First Set: North Park 25, North Central 16
The Vikings started the second set marking seven of the first 10 points, highlighted by blocks from Ahlstrand and senior Kajsa Meyer. The majority of this set was closely contested as the biggest lead by either team was five points. However, the Vikings carried a .367 hitting percentage and topped the Cardinals, 25-20. Freshman Kailyn Mathews led the Vikings with six kills and senior Reagan Clement and sophomore Kate Widman follow with five kills.
Second Set: North Park 25, North Central 20
The Vikings dominated the start of the third set, notching seven-straight points, highlighted by three kills from Ahlstrand, and a pair of service aces from freshman setter Christina Gatta. The Vikings kept up the pace throughout the set as North Park led the Cardinals by as much as 11 points. The Cardinals could only muster 14 points in the set as the Vikings took the final set and the match, 25-14.
Third Set: North Park 25, North Central 14
